Walking on Sunshine

After this week’s blazing temperatures, I’m pretty sure I know what it would be like to walk on sunshine. Prior to a few years ago, I was not a big fan of the color yellow, but over the years, I’ve grown to love its multitude of shades and the way it adds instant fun to any room. While I still need to find the perfect addition of yellow for my apartment, for now, I’m considering the constant sun streaming through my windows (and heating up the place) as my sunny yellow decor…

Happy Summer!

"And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer." – The Great Gatsby

While we’ve all been craving it for awhile, here’s to the official first day of summer – lounging by the pool, picnics in the park, and icy treats (otter pops for me)! Its finally heating up around here and I was even able to spend one of my lunch breaks last week soaking up the sun by the pool. On another note, aren’t these the prettiest popsicles?

Father’s Day

Celebrated Father’s Day with my amazing Dad and family back home yesterday. We spent the day in Sausalito, where I think we experienced the most gorgeous day of the year – just the right temperature and the bluest sky ever. We ate at one of my dad’s favorite restaurants, Le Garage, a laid-back restaurant situated right by the water, and devoured two huge bowls of mussels (yummm), salad, and sandwiches. Luckily, we had to wait  a good hour and a half to be seated, which allowed us to walk by the water, watch the beachgoers, and, most importantly, spend time all together.  Although Le Garage was delicious (I need to go back again!), I think that was one of the rare moments that I was happy to have to wait for a table.

Wayne Thiebald has been one of my favorite artists since a high school art assignment where we had to replicate a famous painting (I chose Wayne Thiebald’s Confections). Naturally, when I saw these Wayne Thiebald-inspired paintings by Joel Penkman, I instantly loved them. How often can you say that a painting is not only gorgeous, but delicious too?

Favorite Mug

I painted this mug a few months ago, but never had the chance to share it with you! Its quickly become one of my favorites, mostly because its just almost too big to wrap my hands around and an integral part of my morning cup of tea. With limited time, I quickly splashed  two of my favorite types of patterns, floral and chevrons, over my oversized mug in a few bright, cheery colors. Usually, I spend hours and hours attempting to create an impeccable ceramic piece, but this time I’m happy with my haphazardly painted mug.
