Sewing with Oilcloth

24 Aug

Last week, my sister and I discovered an art store on Haight Street with a huge selection of fabric in the back of the shop (yay!). Included in that back room, was a crate of oilcloth in colorful patterns. It was obvious that we had to buy some and ended up with this turquoise flower print. I’ve been in a sewing mood and, as requested, ended up making my sister this zippered pouch for her makeup brushes. I like the way it turned out with its lavender accent zipper and bright yellow lining.

Paper Flowers and Gold Stripes

14 Jun

I spent yesterday morning making paper flowers while eating my scrambled eggs breakfast. I used leftover streamers and tissue paper to craft the flowers using this tutorial. Rather than leaving the flowers out to stare at (though I do think they are pretty!), I added the flowers to a black tag and ended up using them for a festive present topper. Paired with a classic gold and white stripped wrapping paper, I’d say this looks a little “Kate Spade inspired.” What do you think?

With Easter coming up this Sunday, what better way to celebrate than with a colorful bunny? I love the modern twist to this colorful Origami bunny gift tag by Eat Drink Chic, especially the glitter! Even better? Its a free printable that will pair perfectly with any Easter treat!

Make Your Own Handmade Book

21 Mar

Ready to make your own handmade book? These are the perfect size for jotting down notes or making a compact scrapbook. All you need are a few supplies, including a pretty patterned fabric. I like using thick canvas fabrics (iKea has some good ones!) for a sturdy, finished look. Enjoy!

Handmade Book for M

19 Mar

A bit late, but this year, Mike and I decided to make each other’s Valentine’s day gifts. Here’s what I made – a handmade book stuffed with pictures and words. The book is made using thick canvas fabric, a bit of sewing, and a lot of hot glue! I’ll be sharing a tutorial for making your own book this week!
